Chocolate Crinkle Cookies are a Family Favorite

If you have never made Chocolate Crinkle Cookies I must tell you that you have been missing out on a Very Delicious Chocolate Cookie. Lucky for you I am going to share with you the Recipe and how to make them right here thanks to my Sista Peep who baked up a batch for me last night.

My Sista Peep is so good to me and she has always been the real baker in the family as she makes fun of me all the time saying I would rather just make something from the Box. Ok so she has me there – I am a convenience girl and I can follow a recipe if I really wanted to, but why do I have to when I have her? I surprise here every now and then, but I would rather leave the real baking to her and the decorating to me – that is fair I think.

The Chocolate Crinkle Cookies has been a long time favorite of mine and one she would make for me since I was little. And yes she would have me in the kitchen helping and doing all the dirty work, but I got to enjoy the fruit of my labor so all was good. So I had been asking her to make me some and last night she made them for us and I just had to share.

This recipe came from one of the original Betty Crocker Cookbooks that was given to my mother at her wedding shower. My Sista Peep had copied it down into her Cookbook, even though she still has the original book put away somewhere.  The recipe has been changed over time, but why mess with perfection – my Sista Peep sticks to the Original.

Here is the “Old School”  Chocolate Crinkle Cookie Recipe:

  • 1/2 Cup Shortening
  • 1 2/3 Cup Sugar
  • 2 Tsp Vanilla
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 1 Ounce Squares Unsweetened Baking Chocolate (melted)
  • 2 Cups Flour
  • 2 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt
  • 1/3 Cup Milk
  • Confectioners Sugar

Cream together Shortening, Sugar and Vanilla then add Eggs and the cooled Melted Unsweetened Baking Chocolate.
Sift together Dry Ingredients – Flour, Baking Powder and Salt then Mix into batter alternately with Milk.
Chill 3 Hours or Overnight.

Back in the day we would (or I would – since I had the not so fun jobs) take each cookie and then roll them into the Powdered Sugar which got quite messy, but my Sista Peep read about a different way of doing it and used it this time with much success.

**NEW IDEA** Pour some Powdered Sugar into a bag, scoop dough by the teaspoonful into the bag, shake and coat with sugar!!!!!!!!!

Grease Cookie Sheet w/shortening then evenly space cookies about 2″ apart on cookie sheet.

Bake @ 350 for about 12 min- Cookies will Puff Up during baking then sink down as they cool. Let sit a minute then remove from cookie sheet and eat them all up with a BIG glass of Milk !!!

Store tightly covered to keep moist and chewy!!!! If there is any left, which is quite rare.

Here is the process – Thanks Sista Peep for photographing the Steps !!!

But the best part about the Chocolate Crinkle Cookies is this:

The Chocolate Crinkle Cookies are so moist inside with a thin crispy outside covered with the yummy Powdered Sugar. Almost like a Brownie, but maybe less sweet with a Sugar Kick. They are soooo good and again one of my personal Favorites. The kids love them as well and they are even better with a Big Glass of Cold Milk.

So give them a try for yourself and they would make Great Cookies to serve at the Kid’s Birthday Party too.

Of course as I am writing this up there are none left cause we ate them all – so I think I need to make a call to my Sista Peep and place another order…..
