With the New Diary of a Wimpy Kid Movie: Rodrick Rules coming to theaters March 2011 I had to share this Fun Cupcake Idea. Check out these Diary of a Wimpy Kid Cheese Touch Cupcakes that I think any child who loves this Book Series would get a kick out of.

Lucky for you I am going to tell you how they were made so you too can re-create them. Now I must give credit where credit is due, these Diary of a Wimpy Kid Cupcakes were not created by me, they were created by a talented lady named Donna who made them for a Church friends Birthday.  Donna was sweet enough to share with me how they were made so I can share it with you – How nice is that?

So let me tell you how it was done, they are pretty Easy to make too.

But first are you familiar with the whole “Cheese Touch”? In case you are not I will fill you in. In the First Diary of a Wimpy Kid Book Greg writes that a student named Darren Walsh touched “the Cheese” (an old, moldy piece of cheese on the schoolyard) with his finger, and is “contaminated” by it, thus creating the Cheese Touch, similar to the Cooties I guess. The Cheese Touch is then passed around the school, and eventually ends up with a German exchange student named Dieter Muller, who moves back to Germany, taking the Cheese Touch with him. This was also played out in the First Diary of a Wimpy Kid Movie – very funny.

This is such a popular part of the Book Series that they have even created a Cheese Touch Board Game that revolves around it  too. Not to worry no one will get contaminated by the Cheese Touch Cupcakes – lol.

Here is what Donna used to create these Diary of a Wimpy Kid Cheese Touch Cupcakes:

The first thing you will do is make your Marshmallow Fondant. Note: Add in your coloring to the melted marshmallow before mixing with sugar.  Add in your Copper (just a little) and then your  Lemon Yellow ( about 4 times as much as copper) until you get a decent color. Then Refrigerate that overnight. Donna said it was extremely messy at first but after a while it came together.

Next Bake, Cool and Frost your Cupcakes and set aside. Take your Marshmallow Fondant and roll it out. Cut out Square Shapes for your Cheese. Then Cut out Circles in the Cheese Slices. Now take a sponge or brush and lightly add on some of the Green Icing Color to the Cheese Slices to make it appear as if the Cheese is Moldy. Then simply take your Cheese slices and place on the top of your Cupcakes and you are done !! Not too hard right?

Donna said these Cheese Touch Cupcakes were a Huge hit with the kids.  She also said that is was so funny cause some of the kids were taking the cheese off the cupcake cause they thought it really was cheese. Or maybe they thought they now had the Cheese Touch – lol.

The other part that made these Cupcakes look great was Donna’s Handmade Diary of Wimpy Kid Cupcake Display. She started with a Square 5 Tired Cardboard Cupcake Display, but only used 3 of the tiers. She wrapped the tiers in craft paper, drew the characters (which she traced onto the paper) on the side ones before taping it on and hot glued ribbon on the edges. Is that Clever or what?

I think she did a great job and these Cheese Touch Cupcakes would be great at your Diary of a Wimpy Kid Birthday Party and even for you teacher’s to make for a Classroom Party.
