A Monsters University Party Theme I know is going to be a HOT one following the movie coming out in theaters which is only 3 days from away from me writing this post. I think this party theme can be so much fun and there are tons of great ideas out there to inspire you to get creative. With that being said I wanted to share 10 of my very favorite food ideas to help get your creative juices flowing.

Are you ready? Good lets go…

Ok to start off I am going to share one of my creations…These adorable Mike and Sully Cupcakes which are sooo EASY to make following my step by step tutorial.

I absolutely adore this cake that features both Mike and Sully in a simple way. Bottom layer is done up in blue with purple spots with a frosting tip to make it look like fur and the top is frosted to look like Mike’s giant eyeball. Is that great or what? Yummy Mike Wazowski Cake Pops!! – Mike seems to very popular recreating into edible treats and ya know why? because he is easy. These Cake Pops are also easy to make even for those who think they cannot do it. Just follow the step by step tutorial here at Spoonful and give it a try. The kids would love these, I know I would.

I am a big fan of healthy treats at a party and this display of fruit is adorable with the eyeball toothpicks. Just glue googly eyes onto toothpicks and stick them into your fruit just like they did and watch the kids dig into something healthy!!

Frozen Sully Pops are the prefect treat to cool the kids down. These are made using Jell-O  and super easy – see the recipe here at Jell-O’s Website.

Even get creative with your drinks and make some Monster Juices like Brady Lou did at their Monster Party. Add some googlly eyes to the containers  and even some plastic cups for added fun. They used different color/favor Kool Aid.  Maybe even add some Marshmallow eyeballs to the end of straws, hmmmm so many ideas.

Another great treat idea from Beth Kruse Custom Creations is Sully’s Sprinkled Popcorn. She drizzled white chocolate on the popcorn and then added some blue sugar crystals on it for color. I might also add in some purple for his spots for variation. I also liked that she put the popcorn into individual cups to make it grab and go – always a good idea!!

Well there you have it 10 great food ideas for your party. I hope I was able to give you some inspiration for your party. These ideas are adorable and yummy and again EASY for anyone to do.

Personally I am counting down the days myself to see this movie since Monsters Inc. is one of my all time favorites when it comes to Disney movies. I love the fact that we get to go back in time to when Mike and Sully are in college working on getting their degrees and learning how to scare just right. Sometimes the second movie is never as good as the first, but I do not think that will be the case with this one.

Kids will go crazy over this movie and I have no doubt there will be lots of little ones asking for a Monsters University Birthday Party.  Lets start with these awesome Monsters University Party Invitations – so many choices available. The first one is one of the official invites, but I love it – Join Us – come on that is so funny.  Then I also love the Monsters University Movie Ticket Invites or the Monsters University VIP Pass Invites because this party theme is based on a movie and those can be customized with all your party info. Kids really love the VIP Pass invites because they can wear them and they are a great choice if you are bringing the kids to see the movie in the theater.

When I saw these Tabletop Monster Decorations I fell instantly in love – how adorable are they? I can come up with so many fun uses for these – obviously having them on your table, but you can even put them on top of a sheet cake, coming out of your lawn as the kids walk up to the party, tape them upside down like they are on the ceiling, popping out of a wall etc… I also like that when the party is over you can put them in your child’s room to enjoy. I may have to get these for myself – lol.

I just adore these Monster Lollipops – how much fun would they be at the party – I say VERY. You can use them to make a fun bouquet on the party table as decoration and have the kids pick one on their way out of the party. These are sold 12 per pack.

I also love these Mike Eyeball Flying Discs. These are not the size of a frisbee at only 3 1/2″, but you can incorporate them into a fun party game. Just create a big Mike on poster board, wood or cardboard and cut out his eye. Have the kids use these to try and get the frisbee into where his eye goes. Have the kids write their names on them with permanent marker and take one home with them.

These Monster Sipper Cups are also so much fun and again they can be used during the party and the kids can take them home when they leave. Just write their names on them with permanent marker. These are sold in assorted colors and designs and hold about 14 ounces of liquid.  I love the pink one at the top – so darn cute!!

For your Monsters University Party Games there are some fun choices you can incorporate into the party. They have the Pin the eye on Mike and some other Monsters University Games on the market you can use depending on the size of your party. You can even have game tables set up with different games. How to Make Mike and Sully Cupcakes

Build a Bear has available a 17 inch Make your own Sully Plush that you can dress up in a Monsters University Jacket or a Monsters University T-Shirt. Also available is a pre-stuffed 11 inch Mike Plush as well.

Now the fun part about this is that you can either take the kids to visit a Build a Bear location to do this or you can order them online and have the kids do it at home. I think the idea of having the kids Stuff a Plush Sully as a Monsters University Party activity would be beyond perfect. All you do is order your Plush Sully online and make sure you write in the instructions of your order to send the Sully Plush Unstuffed.

Then you just purchase the stuffing (PolyFil) from Walmart or your local craft store and let the kids stuff the plush at the party. A 20 Ounce bag of Polyfil will stuff approx 5-6 Large Sully’s. You can also purchase the Monsters University Jacket or Monsters University T-Shirt for them to dress him up in or visit my website The Party Animal and order the Plain White T-Shirts that will fit him and let them decorate a T-Shirt using fabric markers to create their own design.

Build-A-Bear Workshop

I am so excited to see the new Monsters University Movie and the wait is almost over – the movie hits theaters June 21st and I am so there.

I created these cupcakes because I know there are going to be many Monsters University Parties out there and I wanted to share how easy it is to make these adorable cupcakes to go along with it.

Here is what I used to create my Mike and Sully Cupcakes:

• Cupcakes of course – Any Flavor works – I used Vanilla
• Pillsbury Funfetti Vibrant Green Vanilla Frosting and Pillsbury Funfetti Aqua Blue Vanilla Frosting
• Large Marshmallows & Mini Marshmallows
• Blue and Black Edible Food Markers
• Cake Mate Black Icing and Cake Mate Purple Icing
• Blue and Green Candy Corns – Easter Candy Corn
• Raspberry Blue & White Gummi Rings

Now let me break it down showing you truly how EASY these Monster Cupcakes are to create!!

I will start with the Mike Swarovski Cupcakes:

For the Mike Cupcakes You will need your Cupcakes, Pillsbury Funfetti Vibrant Green Vanilla Frosting, Large and Mini Marshmallows, Black and Blue Edible Food Markers, Cake Mate Black Icing and Green Candy Corns.

1. Frost your Cupcake Green and try to make it a bit smooth

2. Slice a Large Marshmallow in half for his BIG eye.

3. Using your Food Marker draw a black circle for his eye and then add blue around that.

4. Take a small amount of Green Frosting and give him an eye lid and cover the back of the Marshmallow as well.

5. Stick his eye onto the cupcake.

6. Using the Black Icing create his mouth. Tip: I put the Black Icing onto a plate and used a Toothpick to add his mouth on – I also let the Green Frosting set a bit before I did this step to make it easier.

7. Cut the top part of your Green Candy Corn to create Mike’s horns.

8. Stick Mike’s horns into the top of your cupcake.

9. Cut up some Mini Marshmallows to create Mike’s Teeth. Tip: To help with the stickiness on your scissors and fingers – dip them into water.

10. Add Mike’s teeth onto the Cupcake.

Come on how EASY was that???

Now let me show you how to make the Sully Cupcakes:

 For the Sully Cupcakes You will need your Cupcakes, Pillsbury Funfetti Aqua Blue Vanilla Frosting, Large and Mini Marshmallows, Black and Blue Edible Food Markers, Cake Mate Black and Purple Icing, Raspberry Blue & White Gummi Rings and Blue Candy Corns.

1. Frost your Cupcake Blue and using your knife lift up to create a fur effect

2. Slice a Mini Marshmallow in half for his eyes.

3. Using your Food Marker draw a black circle for his eye and then add blue around that.

4. Take a small amount of Blue Frosting and give him an eye lid and cover the back of the Marshmallow as well.

5. Add his eyes to the cupcake.

6. Cut the Raspberry Blue & White Gummi Ring taking the white part off and then cute the Blue in half or so for his nose.

7.  Stick his nose onto the cupcake under his eyes.

8. Using the Black Icing create his mouth. Tip: I put the Black Icing onto a plate and used a Toothpick to add his mouth on – I also let the Blue Frosting set a bit before I did this step to make it easier.

9. I took some of the Purple Icing and added a spot to the side of Sully’s head.

10. Next I cut a Blue Candy Corn in half length wise for his horns. I also heated them up for about 30 seconds in the microwave so I could bend the tips a bit. Be careful because they can break very easily – I did have a bunch of casualties doings this – lol.

11. Add the horns into the cupcake.

12. Cut up some Mini Marshmallows to create Sully’s Teeth. Tip: To help with the stickiness on your scissors and fingers – dip them into water. Also be sure to make 2 larger for the bottom to create his fangs.

13.  Add the teeth onto the cupcake. I also added a little more blue frosting above his eyes to give him a bit more eyebrows.

That is it !!! Again how EASY is that?

Tell me the kids would not go crazy for those cuties!!

I am such a HUGE fan of Monsters Inc. and I am personally counting down the days until Monsters University hits the screen. This is one of my all time favorite Disney Movies.

If any of these monsters hid in my closet or under my bed as a child I would have been ok with that. I would have loved for Sully to come visit me – I would have not run, but instead give that big furry blue monster a great big hug, just sayin’. Ya know if he came now I would do the same thing – lol

I just created this EASY tutorial on How to Make Mike and Sully Cupcakes – not as hard as it looks, maybe you will give it a try!!

Kids LOVE Sweet n Sour Chicken and my kids loved this recipe so much when I made it especially my daughter. It has the perfect amount of sweetness and the chicken comes out very tender. While it is a little time consuming to make the end result is worth the time. I think this is a perfect meal to serve up at a party for the kids vs. just baking up chicken nuggets.

Here is what you will need to make this Sweet n Sour Chicken:

Chicken Breading:

• 3-5 Chicken Breasts
• Salt and Pepper
• 1 Cup Cornstarch
• 2 Eggs – Beaten
• 1/3 Cup Canola Oil

Rinse your chicken and trim off all the fat. Then cut the chicken into 1 inch cubes. Season that with Salt and Pepper. Next dip the chicken into the cornstarch coating well and then dip that into the eggs. I think this is the part that takes the longest. Heat Oil in your skillet and cook the chicken in that until nice and browned. Then place your cooked chicken into a 9×13 inch baking dish.

For the Sauce:

• 3/4 Cup of Sugar
• 4 Tbsp Ketchup
• 1/2 Cup White Distilled Vinegar
• 1 tsp Garlic Salt

Whisk that up in a bowl until smooth. Then pour that over your chicken in your baking dish. Turn the chicken so it all gets coated with the sauce. Bake at 350 for about 15 minutes, then then the chicken and cook for about another 15 minutes.

You can serve it over Fried or White Rice, but my kids and hubby liked it just alone. I am telling ya this is sooooo yummy!!!

In addition to that I learned about them from my daughter’s 12 year old friend. I went to pick her up to bring her over to my house and she says “I Made you cookies”. I was so excited – how sweet that was of her and then she told me they were Cake Mix Cookies and I am like What?  I immediately had to try one while I was driving and I was in heaven.

So we got to my house and she handed them out to my daughter, hubby and son and they all loved them as well. I was surprised that my son loved them so much since he is not normally a fan of chocolate. The ones she made were Chocolate with Chocolate Chips in them. I knew I had to make a batch of these so I did just that today and I cannot believe how EASY to was to do.

Here is what you need to make Cake Mix Cookies:

• A Box of Cake Mix of course (I used Chocolate Fudge)
• 2 Eggs
• 1/2 Cup of Vegetable Oil
• Milk Chocolate Chips (optional)

Mix it all together and then make some cookie balls with the batter and put them on your cookie sheet. Bake them at 350 for 10 minutes.

You will end up with a moist delicious cookie and a few extra pounds added to your waistline. The kids are crazy for these.

There are so many variations of cookies you can make with all the Cake Mix Flavors out there. I will be making another batch of these for our family Easter along with a White Cake Mix Cookie which I will add in some Easter M&Ms to be festive!!!
