How to Make Silly Chick Cupcakes

How cute are these Silly Chick Cupcakes? They will definitely create some Giggles and Smiles when the kids see these sitting on a plate looking at them. So do you want to know how to make them? No worries because I am going to show you how I did it Step by Step right here !!

My idea for these Chick Cupcakes came to me when I thought of an upside down Cupcake. The shape reminded me of a Chick, I know crazy right – the things that go through my head sometimes. So I decided to put my vision to the test and if I do say so myself  it was a pretty good one cause they came out so adorable !!

My vision could have also come to me subconsciously from the fact that my daughter’s school class is hatching Chicks and she has been asking me if we could take some to raise. After considering the thought of raising Chickens and deciding I was not ready to cross over to the farming life, even though I live in the country, maybe some cute Chick Cupcakes would take her mind off of that. So did they? Are you kidding me if you have a child you know that once they get there mind set on something that is it. Stupid me just reminded her of just how cute they are – What was I thinking? The answer is still No (lol).

So here is what I used to create these Silly Chick Cupcakes:

  • Cupcakes of course – Any Flavor would work – I used Vanilla
  • Vanilla or White Frosting
  • Wilton’s Lemon Yellow Food Coloring Gel
  • Orange Starburst Candy
  • Yellow Licorice
  • Edible Sugar Eyes
  • Brach’s Lemon Fruit Slices

So here are all my Goods ready to go. Prior to me starting I took the wrappers off the Cupcakes and stuck them in the freezer for awhile so they would be easier to Frost.

I started with making the Chicks Feet. For these I used Orange Starburst Candies. 1 Candy made 2 Feet. First Unwrap and Eat a couple – well that is what I did – I love Starbursts. Then take one at a time and microwave it for 5 seconds to get it soft, Flatten it with the back of a spoon, cut in half and mold into Feet. I left it long in the back so I could bend it up later and stick into the bottom of the cupcakes.

Next eat a few more Starbursts and then take some more following the same method above and create some Beaks for the Chicks, by forming simple Triangles.

Next I took some Yellow Licorice and cut a piece off and then cut that into 3 pieces for each Chick to create some cute feathers on their heads. Then I took the Brach’s Lemon Fruit Slices and cut them in half to be the Chick’s wings. I laid out all my Chick Parts on a plate and was ready to Frost my Cupcakes and then assemble. So far so Easy right?

Time to Frost !!! I added some of the Wilton’s Lemon Yellow Food Coloring Gel to my White Frosting and mixed really well. You can use regular Yellow Food Coloring, but I find the gels give a much brighter color. Then take your cupcake and turn upside down and frost the sides. Then add a nice Blob on the top so it gives it a rounded look for the Chicks head. Next I put my frosted Cupcakes into the fridge to harden up a bit so they would be easier to handle for Assembly.

Time to create my Chicks. First I bent up the feet as you see in the picture. I carefully lifted the Cupcake and stuck them right into the bottom. Then I stuck in the Yellow Licorice Feathers in the top. Next I stuck on the Beak – now at first I laid it flat on, but later changed it to stick out because I was not crazy how it looked flat. Then came their eyes and I stuck a wing on each side. Tip: If you have trouble getting anything to stick on just use some leftover frosting on the backs of the items to help.

Then I just put my Silly Chick Cupcakes on a plate with some Edible Easter Grass and some Jelly Beans and they looked as cute as could be. Tip: Use a spatula when moving them to make it easier.

So what do you think – will there be some Silly Chick Cupcakes being created in your home?

These Chick Cupcakes are perfect for Easter and any Springtime Party!!

Enjoy !!
