A Tie Dye Birthday Cake is all about the surprise your party guests get when you cut the cake and they see the array of colors that are inside. If you have never made one before I am going to show you how – it is Super EASY to do.

This was the cake I made for my daughter’s Groovy Tie Dye Birthday Party and it was my first time ever making a Tie Dye Cake so I was very excited about it.

As always I documented all my steps so I could share it with you. You will be amazed at  how truly EASY this was to make and I was very happy with the end result. You can also use the same method to create Tie Dye Cupcakes as well.

Here is what I used to create my Tie Dye Birthday Cake:

  • White Cake Mix
  • Vanilla Frosting
  • Food Coloring Gel – Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple
  • Spree Candy for the Peace Sign
  • Blue Sparkly Sugar Crystals on the top for some added bling (hard to see the sparkle in the pic)

Now let me show you how to make it….

I only used 1 Cake Mix since I was just doing a 9″ Cake. I then separated my Cake Mix into 6 Bowls for each color. I placed my coloring into each of them and called in my Mini Me – aka My Daughter to do all the mixing. She wanted to help with her cake and being she is the heir to the business she has to learn right? lol  So now I have all my colors ready to go !!

Next I sprayed my pans with cooking spray and spooned in the colors one at a time layering them. Then my Mini Me took a butter knife and swirled it around to give it a more Tie Dye look or so we were hoping it would when we cut the cake.

I colored the Frosting Blue per Mini Me’s request and just placed on the Spree Candies to form a Peace Sign. Then I just sprinkled the top with some Blue Sparkly Sugar Crystals for added Bling.  When it came time for the cake I stuck in some Tie Dye Candles – let my now 11 Year Old make her wish and could not wait to cut that cake open to see the inside. OH the anticipation !!

And there you have it my Party Peeps – my very 1st Tie Dye Birthday Cake a Success !! The kids loved it and had nice Blue Tongues after eating it from the frosting – extra Bonus !!

After seeing how EASY this is to make are you gonna give it a try or what? Go for it !!

Stay Tuned for the entire Groovy Tie Dye Birthday Party Post coming soon…..
